Planning an event that affects the road corridor

Your event plans must keep our roads safe and accessible. If your event could impact the use of roads or footpaths, you may need to seek permission to access the road corridor and, in some cases, apply for a temporary road closure.

Events that may need a permit

Some events can create unusually high volumes of traffic in and around a venue.

Common events include:

  • fun runs and walks
  • street festivals
  • motor sport events

You will likely need a permit if your event does one of the following:

  • compromises the safety of drivers, cyclists and pedestrians
  • temporarily increases traffic volumes
  • restricts traffic flow or access

Applying for a permit

To obtain a permit from Council, you will need to submit a corridor access request (CAR). A CAR is an application to Council seeking permission to carry out activities within the road corridor that may affect its safety, operation or use.

Council will issue a works access permit (WAP) once your CAR is approved. A WAP shows that Council has authorised your event and knows that your event will affect the use of roads or footpaths.
