You can apply for a temporary road closure if it is not feasible to safely maintain a single lane of traffic during your event, activity or works.
Situations that may need a road closure
Council may temporarily close roads for activities such as:
- vehicle races or trials
- processions, carnivals or celebrations
- cultural, sporting or other special events
- excavation works for water or wastewater mains
- road resurfacing or upgrades that require full access to the road corridor
- emergency response

Be aware of processing times
If a temporary road closure is required, submit your application as soon as possible. Do not delay your submission. You can lodge it before submitting your traffic management plan (TMP).
- Motor sport events
- Apply at least 12 weeks prior to the event date
- Community and other events
- Apply at least 6 weeks prior to the event date
- Roadworks
- Apply at least 4 weeks prior to the event date

What happens next
Council will review your application. Once your application is approved, Council must advertise your event to the public for any objections. If there are no public objections, Council will help notify stakeholders that the event will go ahead.
If the public objects, Council may ask you to:
- make changes to your event plan
- consult and engage further with those affected
In cases where the public has major concerns, Council may withdraw approval.

You will need permission to access the road corridor before holding your event or starting any construction work.
