Place your Rural Address Property Identification (RAPID) number plate on the gate post at your property entrance. Keep it clearly visible at all times.

Visibility for emergency services

Your RAPID number plate needs to be clearly visible at all times for emergency services.

  • If possible, place your plate on the side of the gate that emergency services will approach from
  • Use reflective numbers that are easier to see at night
  • Keep your number plate clear from overgrown vegetation

When to use extra signage

Some dwellings are difficult to locate on rural properties due to forking farm tracks and long distances. If it is not immediately clear where the dwelling is from the gate, you need to place extra signage to direct emergency services to the dwellings.

Where to order a RAPID number plate

We recommend buying durable plates with reflective red numbers from these suppliers. Alternative plates are acceptable, but they must be bold, clear and visible at night.

RAPID number allocations

Council allocates rural addresses using the RAPID system. Find out more about which buildings need RAPID numbers and how these numbers are allocated.
