Regional Infrastructure Technical Specifications
The Regional Infrastructure Technical Specification (RITS) replaces the Hamilton Infrastructure Technical Specifications.
The RITS is Council’s current Engineering Code of Practice and is a means of compliance with the District Plan engineering and utilities requirements.
Although alternative methods will be considered at the time of making an application, and will be evaluated as part of the resource consent process, using the RITS will help ensure the process to gain resource consent and comply with conditions is quicker and therefore less costly.
Council is providing a transition period until 1 November 2018 after which the RITS will be the default requirement for resource consents.
Work is underway to develop a clear, technical, National Code of Practice for drinking water, stormwater, and wastewater (the three waters) across Aotearoa New Zealand.
There are currently 45 different codes of practice providing information on how to design and construct water services infrastructure. Under the Water Services Reforms, the Department of Internal affairs is taking this opportunity to develop a single, technical code to better deliver water infrastructure to our communities.
The Department of Internal Affairs is working directly with representatives across the waters industry to get a holistic input into the development of the code. This includes technical experts from councils, representatives from Civil Contractors NZ, Association of Consulting Engineers, Land Development Engineering (IPWEA), and Iwi advisors.
The Department of Internal Affairs is moving forward with the code and intends to keep stakeholders informed through both regular updates and future engagement opportunities. This will consist of a targeted engagement and an open sector engagement, which will include an aspect of public feedback where the actual code will be socialised for comment. The code is expected to be completed in July 2024.
